Your session will include up to 2 hours of shooting time at the location of your choice. We will work together to ensure we authentically capture the unique and beautiful essence of your personality, connection and the love you share for each other. After your session you will receive a digital proofing gallery of 60+ images. From your gallery you will select the images you’d like to receive as digital files. Your session also includes a pre-session consultation and styling assistance to take the stress out of what to wear.

Happy, grumpy, loud, quiet, silly, reserved, fast, slow...I want them to come and show me how they’re feeling... because that’s exactly what we’re trying to capture: a moment in your family life. I know we all want at least one photo of our kids and family looking at the camera and smiling, and I promise to do my very best to get that for you. But once we have that shot in the bag, the rest of the session is fun, movement and just natural playfulness. I show you how to position yourselves, lead you into pretty light, give you some natural prompts and let you do your thing...and those are almost always the photos my clients say they love most. When your child’s energy makes your pictures better, you know you are in a lifestyle session.
It is important to me that our session is a pleasant experience for you and your child. You should not have to bribe your child to do things they don’t want to do. Please know that as a documentary photographer I am very flexible and can easily adjust to new ideas. You know your child best. Maybe you need to run with them, maybe a story helps them calm down or maybe they just need a break. I encourage you to take the time to respond to your child’s needs and not worry about running out of session time. I reserve 2 hours for each of my sessions and that is plenty of time to get a good variety of pictures, even half the time is spent taking pictures. It is important to me that you can feel relaxed so that your child may mirror you. Every now and then it happens that a child simply has a bad day and there’s nothing you can do about it, except re-schedule. If your child does not cooperate within the first 30 min of the session, you can re-schedule your session at no additional cost.
The best time for an outdoor photo session is either early in the morning or right around sunset. Golden light is not just magical in its qualities but the photographer is more flexible in where to shoot so it is easy to capture those in-between moments while walking to the next location. That being said, if you or your family aren't morning people, don't force it, especially not with young kids who have a consistent routine.
For indoor sessions I recommend late morning or early afternoon to make sure we have enough light, even on a cloudy day.
When you think about your session time, make sure to factor in extra time just in case you happen to be running late, want to change outfits during the session, etc.
FOR OUTDOOR SESSIONS
I love sharing my favorite places around Pinckney, Dexter and Ann Arbor with my clients! But don’t feel like you are limited to my suggestions. I encourage you to think about places your family likes to spend time in, places that are meaningful to you. Pick a place where your family members feel comfortable being themselves.
FOR INDOOR SESSIONS
As an on-location photographer I do not work in a studio. Instead, I travel to people’s homes. In lifestyle photography context is important and so your home is the perfect place to photograph your family. No need to worry about the condition of your
house or the lighting. Our main goal is to capture your family and those special memories you’ll want to look back on someday. That’s our focus, not how Pinterest perfect your decorations are looking. As for lighting in your home, bright houses filled
with windows can definitely be beautiful, but so can deep shadows and dramatic pockets of light that only come with darker homes.
Using Lightroom, I hand-edit each image individually to ensure that the exposure and coloring are accurate. I also retouch small details such as stained shirts, crumbs on little
faces, runny noses and newborn blemishes. Facial blemishes are removed manually to maintain a natural look and preserve detail. Head-swapping and extensive re-touching may be requested for an additional $15 per image.
Michigan weather can be quite unpredictable, which is why I never cancel any sessions the day before. If there’s a risk for rain and you have the flexibility, we can agree on a different time of the day. I try not to schedule more than one session a day so I can be flexible in case of bad weather conditions. If you were really hoping for that golden light (and I’m the first one to understand), please let me know and we will find a new date for
your session. Re-scheduling can be tricky during my peak season (September and October) but I will do my best to accommodate your wishes.
There is no down-payment required. Once your pictures have been edited, your order gallery will be linked to my online store. That’s when you’ll be asked to pay for your session in order to obtain your digital files. You may pay with VISA, MasterCard or
